小化合物（药物或肽）本身并不足够复杂，无法诱导免疫反应或无法以产生特异性抗体的方式进行加工。为了用小抗原成功生产抗体，必须将其与免疫原性载体蛋白（例如匙孔血蓝蛋白（KLH））化学偶联。可以将佐剂混合并注射免疫原，以增加免疫反应的强度。我们的Fentanyl-KLH conjugate经过高度纯化，可以最大程度地提高免疫反应。
